Wirtschaftsnobelpreisträger Maurice Allais ist tot

Bereits am 9.10.2010 starb der französische Wirtschaftsnobelpreisträger, Maurice Allais, im Alter von 99 Jahren in Paris. Allais erhielt, als bisher einziger Franzose, im Jahre 1988, die unter Ökonomen begehrte Auszeichnung, die alljährlich in Oslo von der schwedischen Reichsbank in Gedenken an Alfred Nobel verliehen wird. Der verstorbene Nobelpreisträger bekam seinerzeit den Preis “für seine bahnbrechenden Beiträge zur Theorie der Märkte und der effizienten Nutzung von Ressourcen“ (nobelprize.org).
„Allais knüpft in seinen Arbeiten an Walras, Fisher und Pareto an. Er wurde international bekannt durch Untersuchungen zur allgemeinen Gleichgewichtstheorie und zur Quantitätstheorie, zu deren Renaissance er beigetragen hat. […] Sein erstes Buch „A la recherche d’une discipline économique. Première partie: L’économie pure” (1943) war für die allgemeine Gleichgewichtstheorie und für die Theorie der optimalen Nutzung von Kapital und Boden bahnbrechend. Auf diesem Buch fußt sein spätes Hauptwerk „La théorie générale des surplus” (1981). Als Summe seiner geldtheoretischen Untersuchungen ist der Beitrag „A Restatement of the Quantity Theory of Money”, in: The American Economic Review, 56 (1966), anzusehen.“ (zit. nach gabler.de).
Im Bereich der Nutzentheorie entdeckte Allais ein nach ihm benanntes Paradoxon: Wie verhalten sich Individuen, wenn sie sich zwischen verschiedenen Risiken entscheiden müssen (= Allais Paradoxon). Aufgrund seiner Abneigung, seine Arbeiten in Englisch zu verfassen oder übersetzen zu lassen, hatte Maurice Allais es schwer, von der englischsprachig dominierten Fachcommunity wahrgenommen zu werden (vgl. wikipedia.org).
