Vor 30 Jahren entstand infolge eines revolutionären Umsturzes die Islamische Republik Iran. Mit ca. 73 Millionen Einwohnern und einer Fläche von 1.648.195 km² zählt er zu den bevölkerungsreichsten und größten Staaten der Erde (vgl. Wikipedia). Die zahlreichen Erdöl- und Erdgasvorkommen sowie die nukleare Aufrüstungspolitik rücken den Iran immer wieder in den Brennpunkt geo- und wirtschaftspolitischer Interessen.
Diese Literaturübersicht gibt einen ersten Ein- und Überblick zur Volkswirtschaft des Irans. Thematisiert werden u. a. Wirtschaftswachstum –politik, Entwicklungsstrategie und Systemtransformation, Marktintegration in den Weltmarkt, Außenpolitik (nukleare Entwicklungsstrategie) und Sanktionen der Staatenwelt, Rohstoffvorkommen sowie nationale und internationale Geopolitik.

Illegal trade in the Iranian economy : evidence from a structural model / Mohammad Reza Farzanegan.
This study investigates the main causes and consequences of import and export smuggling and estimates the relative index of smuggling in Iran from 1970 to 2002. The Multiple Indicators – Multiple Causes (MIMIC) econometric modelling is used for a comprehensive analysis of the latent variable of smuggling. The main results of this paper indicate that the rate of fine for smuggling and the general level of education reduce smuggling, while the tariff burden increases the incentives for illegal trade. More trade openness accompanies more illegal trade for the case of Iran. On average, the relative size of smuggling is about 13% of the total trade in Iran. The effects of oil price shocks on the Iranian economy / Mohammad Reza Farzanegan; Gunther Markwardt.
The Iranian economy is highly vulnerable to oil price fluctuations. This paper analyzes the dynamic relationship between oil price shocks and major macroeconomic variables in Iran by applying a VAR approach. The study points out the asymmetric effects of oil price shocks; for instance, positive as well as negative oil price shocks significantly increase inflation. We find a strong positive relationship between positive oil price changes and industrial output growth. Unexpectedly, we can only identify a marginal impact of oil price fluctuations on real government expenditures. Furthermore, we observe the “Dutch Disease” syndrome through significant real effective exchange rate appreciation. — macroeconomic uctuations ; oil price shocks ; developing economies ; Iran ; VAR modelling
