Obwohl alle volkswirtschaftlichen Kennzahlen steil nach unten zeigen (bspw. BIP -6%), ist die allgemeine Stimmung in der Bevölkerung noch ausgesprochen gut. Das sich dies bei anhaltender Wirtschaftskrise schnell ändern könnte, wurde in jüngster Zeit oft thematisiert (u. a. Gesine Schwan, Michael Sommer). Wie der Blick in die Geschichte zeigt, haben schwere, dauerhafte Wirtschaftskrisen schon des Öfteren eine Infragestellung der Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsordnung verursacht, welche letztlich auch vor dem Politischen System nicht halt machte (siehe Argentinien 1930iger Jahre/ Beginn 21. Jahrhundert, vgl. auch Frankreich).
Diese Literaturübersicht führt nicht nur in die aktuellen Diskurse über das revolutionäre Potential von Wirtschaftskrisen ein, sondern beinhaltet auch den Blick in die Geschichte, wobei Bezüge zur Sozialen Frage oder den Sozialen Bewegungen mit eingeschlossen sind.

This paper investigates the effects of financial development and political instability on economic growth in a power-ARCH framework with data for Argentina from 1896 to 2000. Our findings suggest that (i) informal or unanticipated political instability (e.g., guerrilla warfare) has a direct negative impact on growth; (ii) formal or anticipated instability (e.g., cabinet changes) has an indirect (through volatility) impact on growth; (iii) the effect of financial development is positive and, surprisingly, not via volatility; (iv) the informal instability effects are much larger in the short- than in the long-run; and (v) the impact of financial development on economic growth is negative in the short- but positive in the long-run. — Economic growth ; financial development ; volatility ; political instability ; power-ARCH
