Bruttonationaleinkommen (BNP) als Wachstumsindikator!? Alternative Wohlstandsmaße im Vergleich

In der Öffentlichkeit und politischen Diskussion ist das Bruttonationaleinkommen (BNP, früher: Bruttosozialprodukt (BSP)) der zentrale Wirtschaftsindikator für die Leistungsfähigkeit einer Volkswirtschaft. Ein steigendes BNP wird dabei mit steigendem Wohlstand assoziiert und umgekehrt. Der zentrale Kritikpunkt an diesem Wohlstandsindikator liegt darin begründet, dass das BNP nur die offenen, d. h. nur die messbaren Markttransaktionen erfasst. Somit werden alle nichtmarktbezogen, aber wirtschaftsrelevanten Austauschbeziehungen nicht berücksichtig, z. B. die sozialen Kosten (Umweltschäden), die Eigenleistung privater Haushalte (Reproduktionsleistungen), die Transaktionen innerhalb der Schattenwirtschaft, oder die vermögens- und einkommensspezifischen Verteilungseffekte. Mittlerweile existieren zahlreiche alternative Messkonzepte. Mit diesen Konzepten und den entsprechenden Kritikpunkten am dominierenden BNP-Ansatz befasst sich diese Literaturübersicht.
